Sinful Colours Pinky Glitter

Yesterday I went to IKEA to get a free standing clothes rail. I want to make more of an effort with my wardrobe this year as I leave student life behind me and thought this would be a great way to make more informed clothing choices. While in the Boots next to IKEA I came across Sinful Colours for the first time. The bottles were so much bigger than I was expecting at 15ml and the range of colours was great. I picked up four bottles and this is one of them, Pinky Glitter:

Pinky Glitter is a sheer neon pink polish with iridescent glitter flakes through it. It takes 3-4 coats alone to be opaque but I layered it and used 2 coats here.

It's just stunning! The formula is great, the colour is really neon and the glitter flakes reflect loads of light.

For the price of £1.99 Sinful Colours Pinky Glitter is a gem and I would recommend that you try to find a stand to look at. I will be showing you the other colours that I picked up very soon but I swatted them on a nail wheel and they are also awesome :).

Wassail Nail Art

When I was doing my swatches of the Ethereal Lacquer polishes I couldn't resist adding a little stamping to this beautiful polish. This lightbulb image is from the Bundle Monster Create your own set.

I stamped with NYC Full Metal Jacket my go to gold stamper and love how this turned out :)

Just look at the  sparkle on that- stunning!

33DC Inspired by a Tutorial

This wasn't really a tutorial but it is someone else's design. Dressed up Nails did these awesome dotty hearts and when I saw them I knew they were what I wanted to copy for this challenge. I did mine in neon pink and pastel lime green- a fabulous combination which is under appreciated.

The colours used here are Jessica Lime Cooler and Lilypad Lacquer In Pink We Trust- an exclusive made for the UK store Sally Magpies. I did the dots with a dotting tool and freehanded the stripes with a medium length striping brush.

I really like this manicure. I like how in your face it is but also isn't because the pastel green tones it down, just awesome :).

Tomorrow I will have a post summing up my top ten polishes for the winter season now that the clocks have gone back and some of them are a little wild cardy so come and see if you agree with me :).

Lacquer Lust Bow Chica Wow Wow Ruffian

I am desperately trying to work my way through my pile of untrieds and am having some success but it's definitely something I have to think about other wise I do resort to using familiar polishes. The main polish in this manicure Lacquer Lust Bow Chica Wow Wow is one of my untrieds- a deep blue holographic polish I decided to pair it with the bright pink of piCture pOlish Electric Dream in my current favourite manicure style- the ruffian.

I loved this, the sun helpfully came out for a little bit while I was wearing it so I do apologise for the background of the two sun photos, I took them on the move in case the sun went back in.

Bow Chica has a really strong holo effect but it's more of a scattered holo than a linear one- although as you can see below there is some bend to it.

I love this combination, it's really fun and very simple to do. Because it is quite plain this mani is also very easy to wear and could be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

I'll be back tomorrow with some halloween bats :).

Dots and Stripes Tutorial

I'm not entirely certain what to call this design but I thought I'd put together a quick tutorial for it :). As I  freak out at the sound of my own voice on tape I have put together a picture series.

1) For this you need a pale pink polish (I like sheer but you choose one you like), a holographic pink polish, a medium striping brush, a small dotting tool and either a white and black Barry M nail art pen or polishes to dot with.

2) Paint on two coats of the pale pink polish

3) Use the holographic polish and the striping brush to make curves on your nails (as shown on the middle and ring fingers). Then fill the shapes in with the striping brush (as shown on the index and little fingers)

4) Add dots on the sides of the shapes using the pink polish and your dotting tool

5) Add white dots along the sides of the pink shapes

6)Add black dots to any gaps for definition.

The polishes I used are OPI Bubblebath and Emily de Molly Where Boys Fear to Tread

31DC Polka Dots

I love challenges! I love when you push yourself to do something a little unusual because 40 other people are doing the same prompt and you come up with something like this:

This is so not me; it's bright pink but also subtle because of the nude base.

This manicure started off with two coats of Deborah Lippmann Prelude to a Kiss. I then used a striping brush to add the shapes in Emily de Molly Where Boys Fear to Tread. I picked this up on a sale site on facebook and it's not one I would have bought new but I do love it, it's so holographic and the colour is a gorgeous bright fuchsia. I used my striping brush to add pink dots with Where boys fear to tread and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls then for the finishing touch added the dots in black with my Barry M nail art pen. The following photo is deliberately blurred to show off the holographic nature of the polish.

This is one of those "I'm not really sure where it was going when I started but I love where it ended up" nail art designs. You can do this too, just stick to a really simple colour palette (I chose pink and ran with it) and try to keep your lines curvy because that way they look much more organic than if there are sharp corners.

I feel like my skills with my nail art brushes are getting better and I'm really pleased with the content I've been making for this challenge and I hope you've been enjoying it too :)

Electric Fish

This post is showcasing the fabulous piCture pOlish Electric Dream, a bright pink polish with gold shimmer. This polish was inspired by the coral reef in Fiji and therefore I have decided to pair it with a fish scale nail.

This polish can look anywhere between pink and coral depending on the light and your skin tone, on me it definitely looks more pink. This is two coats of the fantastic PP formula and then a top coat. I think this dries to a slightly satiny finish but I was painting in poor light so I can't be sure... 

I chose a few different polishes to complete the fish scale nail, but I wish I had chosen ones that were similar in finish- there's something about the contrast between the shimmer and the cremes that isn't working for me. I'm still running on a small collection and brought mostly cremes so I didn't have as much choice as I would in Cambridge. The polishes you're seeing are piCture pOlish Freya's Cats, Essie Naughty Nautical, Barry M Passionfruit and Orly Hook Up.

This accent nail takes a surprising amount of time for what it is, I think because you have to dot a different colour every time rather than being able to do a few dots of the same colour.

Pastel Pixellation Nail Art

Are you ever inspired by the name of a polish to create nail art? As soon as I saw this polish I knew I wanted to draw on my own pastel pixels on my accent nail. Although in hind sight I think the polishes I chose were too pale.

The base polish here is the gorgeous Pastel Pixellation by Smitten Polish, three coats of which produce this colour which changes between pastel pink and purple depending on the light with multi coloured square glitter in it.

To create this very subtle pixel effect I drew on the squares with my Barry M white nail art pen and then went back in with my coloured polishes and a paintbrush to colour in the squares.

My idea was to have a gradient of squares from pale blue through purple to pink.

If I were to repeat this I would change the colour of my pixels.

Holographic Brush Stroke Mani

I have been seeing brush stroke manis everywhere recently and after trying one out on my friend Heather (which you'll see tomorrow) I decided to do one on myself with a pink, blue and grey colour scheme. I also included two holographic polishes which gave this mani an extra dimension in the sun.

The above photo shows how this mani looks in the shade and the below shows how it transforms in the sunlight:

Pink colour block

So this is what I'm wearing on my right hand to match the blue colour block on my left. My friend does this thing with socks where he wears ones which match geometrically but are different colours and I used that principle for this. So here they are:
